I can’t prove this but I’m certainly not going back to that vet for the new dog. So I’m trying to compile a list of vets who are “partnered” with a major consolidator or PE firm.
I’m finding it very difficult to get that list. The PE firms’ websites never list their “partners.”
I’m in Santa Clara County, California. So far, I’ve just got:

VCA
Banfield

That tooth-scaling price increase is crazy, F.E.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the issue.

When KKR started suffering from its failure to hedge its interest rate positions (on its borrowings) it apparently decided to use its vet holdings to repair the damage rising interest rates caused on its bottom line. Thus, local vet charges have more than doubled. One example: teeth scaling for a 70lb GSD went from $300 to $700+ in 4 years. Another e.g., female hormone med used for incontinence price on open market, ten cents a dose. KKR vet price was twenty times higher at $2.00 per dose. And, of course, these private capital firms play price leader – price follower to avoid Sherman & Clayton Acts.
If you start looking at where Private Capital has its fingers in, you’ll see why the Fed has had such a difficult time in putting down inflation.

I think your comment is extreme. We should not blame the vets or staff; I blame corporate America, and now my question has been answered that it isn’t just here. I’ve had a couple of bad experiences costing me thousands of dollars, so I went back to my old vet, who I found out is also bought. I know better now and refused some of the treatments that were suggested. But I felt bad for the young vet just trying to earn a living the best she could. Everyone, except the moneymakers, will suffer because of this. So many dogs and cats need rescue, but many will not be because of the vet bills.
For my older dog today, they even had this new thing I had never heard of: an extra-better, bigger, and more costly exam for an older dog. I definitely refused that.

PEF-owned clinics are certainly becoming more common, Lorelei. We’re sorry to hear that yours has apparently been bought out, but we appreciate you sharing your story.
