Well we”ve done the cleaning and are using a crate. I’ve read that beagles are low on the canine intelligence scale, and based on what I’ve seen with these and dogs of family members. I’d agree. Most people wouldn’t have house dogs if they were as ‘tricky’ as ours.

There may be lingering odor issues that are triggering them to go inside.
Make sure you have thoroughly cleaned the areas they’ve gone in — an enzymatic cleaner would be helpful.

Alternatively, you could give crate training a try.

Just hang in there! Beagles can be tricky to house train.

Thanks, but we’ve done that. We set up a 3.5 x 5.5 foot area using masonite panels on the backside of our carport to limit visual distraction. They will stand up and look over the panels so we try to keep them away from them and on leash. Still just want to sniff around and/or just sit or lay down. The problem is that they do not seem to get the idea that OUTSIDE is the only place to potty. They will go out there sometimes but simply think is okay to go inside, too. We don’t know how to get them to understand that INSIDE is not okay. Rewarding with treats outside hasn’t sunk in. They know when they go potty outside they get a treat because they’ll look up at us and the treat jar. They don’t look at us like they expect a treat after peeing/pooping inside.

That’s a pretty common challenge, we’d recommend trying some of the strategies Claire laid out in the article — especially #3.
Best of luck!

After 6 week of trying they still spend their time sniffing and/or examining everything. Then will pee within 2 minutes of coming inside. Sometimes they will go outside but their is no consistency or progress. They are 17 weeks old.
