This is a pretty old article, and our thoughts on shock collars have evolved over time.

If you scroll down to the bottom portion of the article, you can see Meg’s current thinking, as well as some of the pros and cons of these tools. As she puts it in the “Should I Use a Shock Collar to Train My Dog” section:

In short – probably not. At the very least, we recommend that you explore all other alternatives before considering an e-collar due to the risk of fallout.

Seb – while I’m personally not a fan of of shock collar, our goal is to provide readers with all their options and let them decide what is best for their needs. We do make sure to explain the many pitfalls of shock collars, and why we generally do not recommend them.
