    71. Great capture 🙂

    72. re cuca burra/stupidhead..its aboriginal..for ??..possibly laughing bird..theyre mischevious but quite smart..theyre very vivacious, curious and social birds..with a loud cackling laughter that rises and falls in volume..they all join in together..quite a party bird it seems, very cheeky..related to the kingfisher-a butch version-hunters..and an Aussie icon -famed for opening credits of old cinema newsreels "Movietone News?"

    73. Oi! Sou administrador de um grupo chamado Arte nos Tabuleiros, e nós adoraríamos ter a sua foto adicionada ao grupo.

    77. looks like little kids watching bigger kids play in the distance

    78. In reply to DominusVobiscum (14 months ago), Kookaburras are great subjects for photographing. They are unphased by humans approaching relatively close. They will remain calm and posed for minutes on end, so I should imagine the image had been captured "in the wild". I have taken a number in my backyard over the years, here in Brisbane, Australia (never managed to get more than two in the one frame though :-)).

    79. This is great:)
Love the texture and the birds, they’re adorable

    80. Fantastic. What a great shot of those kookaburras. They look different to the modern ones.

    106. what a gorgeous picture this is .. i hope they are still alive

    107. Que foto lindissima 🙂

    108. Kookaburras are by nature not particularly shy, and are generally pretty relaxed and happy to sit still and show off for the camera, even wild ones.

    109. Hermosos.

    110. cute and beautiful

    111. Very well done! Love the way to watch of the birds.

      Gambass from France.

    112. I feel bad for the one on the right. He’s like the ugly duckling with agiant head. He’s still beautiful…..just more unique than his brothers or sisters.

    113. nice picture

    114. i love these………..i wonder what they taste like

    115. the four on the left appear young by their feather colour tones , my mother has them line up at her house like this over the last 15 years and you find that generations return with their young. She backs onto the side of a hill and has prolific bird and animals coming into the yard, especially goannas, skinks, and numerous bird varieties such as finches, scrub turkeys, kookaburras and othernative birds on mass. The goannas less so now with more development in the area.
She has planted specific plants for feeding the birds and to assist butterfly breeding. (Cairns)

    116. it could also look older 😉 beautiful

    117. that is way too cute. i love those little cuties!

    142. belíssima foto!!!!

    143. I just discovered this while searching for something else. Nobody seems to have answered the question about whether Kookaburras are related to Kingfishers. Kookaburras are indeed of the Kingfisher family of birds, and are actually the largest in the world, the rest of the Kingfishers being much smaller.
We have about a dozen kookaburras come into our back yard most days to be hand fed. You can see them here: kookaburrasinourbackyard.blogspot.com/

    144. so cute !

    197. Fantástica!

    198. J’adore ces oiseaux !!

    199. I note the comments assuming that these are aviary birds.

There used to be 5 and sometimes 7 kookaburras line up exactly like this at our home in Stirling in the Adelaide Hills, just 5 years ago.

They were "wild" in so far as birds which are fed by the locals can be.

It took almost 2 years for them to learn that we would not feed tham and by our 4th year there they were notpresent like this, only a single pair and occasional young.

While there were so many Kookaburras we did not see small birds such as blue wrens and grey shrike thrushes.
We watched the kookaburras steal the nestlings from the Grey shrike thrushes nests 2 years in a row.

Trying to educate people NOT to fee free birds (no longer "wild" imo, is a real task.
      🙁

Also here in NZ where I live we have a flock of 5 wild ones (from wind blown arrivals – there were 2 to start with) but can’t get close to them unfortunately……..
I’d say young kookaburras and definately not kingfishers which are a bird I’m very familiar with having hand reared dozens of them!
