sweet freak
This is what my spouse ordered online after studying Steve Almond’s "Candy Freak: A Journey by way of the Chocolate Underbelly of The usa," the tale of his travels all over the U.S. in research of the minor sweet organizations that even now make great but hard to find sweet.
(In fact, he in no way mentions Zagnut simply because he does not like coconut Zagnut is my possess childhood favored. Identical with Fizzies. And the bubblegum cigarettes. Steve Almond is a chocolate freak.)
We purchased all these from a single on the web source: www.hometownfavorites.com/, which has an incredible catalog of candies from my childhood.
Now we are bundling a assortment of these candies with the ebook to give as holiday presents — I would have liked to go through the e-book and tasted every single candy as Steve described it. I have no notion why an online sweet source doesn’t market a bundle like that.

These molds were perfect for chocolate covered oreos. They released perfectly. Only problem is that when they are filled they are hard to pick up to put in the fridge so they can set up. I filled them over a tray for stability and had no problem.

Made christening Oreos for my sons christening! Only made 10 so far and only one got stuck but still useable! Practice 1 or 2 first so you get the hang of it! Make sure you tap out the air bubbles! See pics for how they came out!
Looks like a late Halloween treat.
i like the one called "big hunk"
Cool. Just delicioused the site…thanks.
I haven’t browsed around since I posted this photo in 2006 — I’ll take a spin around Flickr!
This is why you’re skinny….
Can you believe I haven’t tried any of these? Much to my disappointment! I’ll have to order them online, as they’re not anywhere near me.

I have a home baking business, and sometimes I need to crank out large orders of chocolate covered Oreos. Most molds only allow you to make 6 at a time; but with this 12 count mold, I can make twice as many. You also receive 2 molds– so thats 2 dozen cookies. The material is a sturdy silicone and they pop out easily when you peel the mold back. So far, I love them!
Hmmmmm
where’s the …..
Necco Wafers
Jujubes
Sugar Babies
Red Hots
Bottle Caps
Boston Baked Beans
etc……..?
great photo idea
May I have one ?
Ooo… I read that book. It was great. If you liked that one check out Emperors of Chocolate. It is a little out of date now, but one of my favorite books of all time about the Hershey and Mars companies.
"where’s the…?" Not mentioned in the book!
Can you believe we haven’t even opened one of them yet?
Valomilk = teh awesome. I’d think they’d be hard to ship, though.
Also, try microwaving the Big Hunk and Abba Zabba.
Steve’s a great guy — he did a signing for Candy Freak at Dylan’s when it came out — and I bet he’d be tickled to learn of your gift-pack plan!
I liked the candy cigarettes – not the gum – the crunchy white candy with a pink "flame" painted on the end. If I remember correctly, they tasted like clove.
